February, 2005 - Ibara Melano By: Submitted: 2/3/2005 Mark Ibara's infamous melano February's Betta of the Month is a spectacular black melano HM bred and raised by the incomparable Mark Ibara of Hawaii. This fish has gotten kudos from several top betta breeders I know as the best black melano they have ever seen, and I have to stand in full accord. Finnage, form, and color are without fault, and I feel fortunate just having fish from a related line to work with! This fish was so good that it was actually stolen from Mark at a betta show. As heinous as I think this is, I only hope that the guilty party at least got a few decent spawns from this fish. Does your betta have what it takes to be Betta of the Month? Is he brilliant? Quirky? Branching and Fin Rays

Defining a Good Crowntail
For the purpose of showing in the CT class, Crowntails are defined as bettas exhibiting at least 33% reduction in webbing versus ray length in each of the three primary fins (caudal, anal and dorsal). This requirement must be demonstrated in all three primary fins but does not need to be exhibited between all rays to meet the minimum requirement to be classified as a Crowntail betta.
