Rosetail OHM, 'MG'
The quest for the perfect halfmoon by selectively breeding for branching and straight caudal edges has given rise to a new development in the Betta splendens tailforms - the Rosetail.

The main characteristic of the rosetail is the excessive branching in all three unpaired fins, especially the excessive branching and the overlapping rays in the caudal, which produces a 'rose-like' appearance. The extreme form of Rosetail can produce the very unique 'Feathertail' betta. A breeder using Rosetail bettas in their halfmoon lines has to be particularly careful of excess - fish who cannot swim properly, or who carry the trait into the mutation that has been coined 'X-Factor Fish' - fish with poor scales, shorter ventrals and collapsing finnage.

More about the rosetail can be found here.

Stock shop update COMPLETE.. Sorry for the delay everyone. We've recently found out that the old man and I are expecting a baby, and while that is very exciting, it is also very tiring nauseating terrifying unexpected, considering my medical history. Doc has instructed me to rest up and try not to get stressed, so I'll be taking some time away from work and probably reducing the betta operation a bit.

Most available stock is now posted, although I may have one or two stragglers over the coming week. Next stock shop update probably won't be for a couple of weeks at least. Thanks so much for the outpouring of love, support, and good wishes. I feel so lucky to count so many friends within this hobby :).

ADOPTED! Slouchy Platinum Yellow 149
This pretty boy had a swim bladder problem as a youngling that bent his spine a bit, but he managed to recover very nicely. He doesn't have any swimming problems at all now, but he does still have a slight bend in the spine. ADOPTED! Thanks, Renee!

Anyone who routinely breeds Betta will eventually encounter a spawn with vastly more males than females or the converse.

Breeding Bettas - For Fun and Profit?
Several times a week I get emails from people wanting advice on how to make a profit selling bettas online. I can only assume this is because I run a rather high-profile website which seems to sell a lot of bettas. When you look at the price tag on some of these fish, Wow!, it looks like I'm making a killing! So I'm going to address the money-making potential in bettas, and what that requires of you.

The Different Types of Black
One of the most confusing issues for newcomers into our hobby is the different types of black bettas, and how they work from a genetics perspective.
